Montauk fishing charter boat facts: Frank Mundus
On October 21, 1925 Montauk sharking fishing was born – well actually Frank Mundus was born. In june 1964 Frank caught a 4,500 lb Great White shark off of Montauk Point. It was over 17 ft. long and its girth was 13 ft. Frank and his catch were the inspiration for Peter Benchley’s “JAWS”.
This great white is acknowledged by the Guiness Book of World Records as one of the biggest white sharks taken.
